Tohsina Seyedi shares her personal books to the college library

13 June 2019: Tohsina Seyedi, a 5th Semester student from the English Department came forward to donate her personal collection of books to the college library.
The books were received by the Librarian of the College, Ms. Prarthana Borthakur. The college appreciates her noble gesture in contributing valuable books to the library, and wishes her all the best for her studies.
Don Bosco College Governing Body meet today
April 29, 2019
29 April 2019: The Governing Body of the College met today as part of its scheduled meeting at 3.00 pm. Fr. Joseph Kindo presided over the meeting. Ten members were present and three members could not be present due to various urgent reasons.
The president opened the meeting with a short prayer after by welcoming all the members present. The secretary, Fr. Jose Palely read the report and it was passed. Fr. Policarp presented the activity report of the college.
After that the academic calendar was taken fir discussion and approved. Varous academic matters and preparedness for starting the CBCS system in the college was evaluated and found satisfactory.
After some input from the College administrator on the financial aspects of the college and the study of the college prospectus for the session 2019-20, the meeting came to a close at 5.00 pm
Environment Preservation and promotion is the theme of the Third day of the NSS Special Camp

3 March 2019: The third day of the NSS special camp began in the morning with the Painting Competition under the Theme: “Environment Preservation”. The children of the adopted village participated in the Painting Competition. All the Materials were provided by the NSS. NSS Volunteers, Ankita Tirkey, Esther Kamei, Ganglen Bangyang, Juli Malar, Pritam Joseph Takri, Gaikhanshin Phaomei and Michael Kujur coordinated the Painting Competition Program.
After the Painting Competition was completed, the saplings were planted in all the houses of the don bosco colony and the slum area. And some of the plants were distributed. This was taken charge by Martin Minj, Roshan Kandulna,George Shilshi, Emmanuel Lakra, Binud mura, Ankita Tirkey, Juli Malar, Aboy Pamei, Rohit Gorh, Mark Pegu, Tingmai Wangsu and Sushila Lakra.
Arrangement for games were done by Roshan Kandulna, Ankita Tirkey, Tingmai Wangsu, Samuel Purty, Junash Tirkey, Esther Kamei and Guloungam Gangmei.
And for shopping and preparation for meal was done by Baba Kurmi, Abhinash Minj, Chunthanlung Kamei, Pranjal Tanti, Rohit Gorh and George Shilshi. The NSS Volunteers with the help of Mr. Konthoujam Manoranjan, Asst. Professor, Computer Studies,Ms. Prarthana Borthakur, Asst. Librarian and Mr. Harmeet Singh, HOD, Department of Commerce, prepared a delicious meal for all the volunteers. Fr. Dr. Jose Palely, Principal, offered prayers before the meal and blessed all the members present. We thank Ms. Sushmita Bora Rongpipi, Program Officer and Asst. Prof, Department of History for seeing to the smooth conduct and animation of the special camp through the third day. At 3.00 pm after a hearty meal together, the program of the third day came to an end.

30 April: A Five Day Training Programme on Automation of Libraries is being held in Dibrugarh University from 25th-29th of April organised by INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar Gujarat in Collaboration with Dibrugarh University. Ms. Prarthana Borthakur, Librarian, Don Bosco College, Golaghat, was selected to participate in the training program. Inaugural Sessions was presided over by Deputy Librarian of Dibrugarh University, Dr.Utpal Das. During the Inaugural Session, Dr.Alak Kumar Buragohain,VC, Dibrugarh University, Dr.Rupam Saikia, CDC Director, Dr. Maya Avasia, Librarian, Asiatic Society Mumbai, Prof.Prabuddha Ganguly, Visiting Professor, IIT Kharagpur and Raja V. Scientists B.,INFLIBNET Centre were felicitated.
In total, there were 39 participants, Librarians and Assistant Librarians from different Colleges of Assam. The training programme aimed at providing hands-on training to College librarians on how to automate different functions and services of libraries. Both theory and practical sessions were being taken by library professionals and Professors from reputed Institutes all over India were present. Technical sessions were mainly based on operation of soul software; practical knowledge is given on different modules of the software. Theory sessions were mainly on: copyright aspect in digitisation of print resources, setting up of LAN Network, Website Design of Libraries, and Detection of plagiarism using URKUND.
At the End of the Training programme, participants were given to fill feedback forms asking them to express their further expectations from such training programme in future which is followed by valedictory sessions where participants were given chance to share their experience during the five day training programme, Group photos were taken and finally certificates of participation were distributed.
Librarian participates in the Workshop on Open Source Software (OSS) for Library Automation

Jan 27 : A three Day Workshop on Open Source Software For Library Automation was held at Assam Don Bosco University, Azara Campus from 23rd-25th of Jan,2017 organised by Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore in Collaboration with Assam Don Bosco University. Technical sessions were taken by resource person coming from ISI, Bangalore and NCL, Pune where participants were taught how to better service to library users by the use of KOHA software for library management.
The workshop basically highlighted at the application of Koha Software in libraries and provided hands on training to participants from Library and information Science field of NE states of India.
The Workshop aimed at:
- Preparing Library Professionals to work in a digital environment by giving thorough training, tutorial and hands on practice on open source software.
- To update professionals on Content Management.
Asst. Librarian to participate in the 3 day workshop for Library Automation at Don Bosco University

Jan 20 : Ms. Prarthana Borthakur, Asst. Librarian is selected to participate in the 3 day workshop on Open Source software for Library Automation to be held at Azara Campus, Don Bosco University from 22-25 January 2017.
The purpose of the three-day workshop is to impart practical knowledge to participants on the use of open source tools in libraries. The open source software ‘Koha’ that deals with library management will be introduced and taught with hands-on practice. The workshop will also include lectures by experts to widen the knowledge in related topics of digital libraries and tools to build and manage digital collections. The workshop will look at strengthening libraries in North East India through capacity building in cutting edge areas of library automation and digital collection management.
