Teachers’ Day observed as a day of gratitude in the college

5 Sept: The 5th semester students coordinated the teachers’ day program under the theme “A day of Gratitude” with the help of the various departments of the college: Commerce, Education, English, Political Science and Sociology.

The day was dedicated to appreciate all the teaching and non teaching staff, the management and all those who help in the educational process in various ways.

With floral tributes, songs and dances, the dignitaries were ushered into the hall beautifully decorated and arranged for the occasion. program began with a prayer dance on the theme Shishak Din and the lighting of the lamp.

This was followed by the presentations and thematic items bringing out the significance of the day.

While Guloungam Gangmei of Sociology department introduced the day, Anjana Guria of Education Department gave an appreciative presentation on the how the college staff help mould the live of the students.

Fr. Jose Palely, Principal gave a short presentation and thanked the staff for their valued contribution to the college and society and Mr. Anjan Bharali, Asst. Professor, Dept of Commerce and SWAYAM Coordinator spoke on the noble profession of teaching and the need to appreciate every teacher. Taking cue from his childhood days, he said, often parents are the first teachers and on this beautiful day one should not forget to call them in gratitude.

Sanjit Kumar Singh of Commerce Department gave the vote of thanks, while Marlinush baghwar and Rashmi Tigga of English Department compered the program. Emanuel Lakra of Political Science was the coordinator.

A Breakfast Time in the Guwahati – Bangalore Train

18 July 2019: After a peaceful night rest, the students and staff awakened to a new day and got ready for breakfast.

The students distributed Buns and Jam and fruits. Many bought bananas and found that they were much cheaper in Golaghat.

Though a little tired, they are very happy in the train and waiting eagerly to reach Bangalore.

Don Bosco College Students on Educational Tour to Bangalore & Mysore

15 July 2019: Forty Students along with Five staff including the Principal, Fr. Jose Palely set out for an educational tour to Bangalore. The Patron of the Tour is Fr. V M Thomas, Director, Planning and Development, DBTECH New Delhi, who during the visit, interacted with the students and encouraged them for an educational Tour to Bangalore. He also facilitated receiving concession forms, and sponsored dinners in Bangalore. With his blessings, the team set out on the first Educational Tour to Bangalore.

The students travelled to Guwahati by AVADH Express and halted the night at Guwahati, Girls at CRI and Boys at Don Bosco Parish Hall. Thanks to the NF Railway, we got our confirmation tickets with an extra coach added to the train and our journey started on 16 July from Guwahati.

It is the first experience for many of the students. On 18 July they will reach Bangalore and a host of programs await them. Many people have come forward to help the smooth conduct of this Educational Tour. Some of them are: Ms. Suja of Infosys, Fr. Joy, Jinu Mathew & Team at BREADS, Fr. John & Team at BOSCO, Fr. Joseph Elavanal at DBSM, Mr. Felix D’Souza & Mr. Philip of FVTRS,  Dr. Victor Paul & Dr. Tomy KK of Christ University, Mr. Stanley of SKIP, Mr. Sunny & Femi, Fusco School and Provincial Community, CSJB and Tally Solutions.

We wish all the students a wonderful learning time at Bangalore. On 24th July they will return by Bangalore – Guwahati train.

Commerce Department took up plantation of additional saplings at the college campus

14 June 2019: The staff and students of the Department of Commerce took up the protection and preservation of the saplings planted during the World Environment Day 2019.

As part of the activity, students brought saplings and planted them in the College plantation area. The 5th sem students took leadership in the planting program.

Sanjit Kr Singh brought a Berry plant, David Horo planted a sapling of Jack fruit , Rimon Lakra a Mango tree sampling and
Godbin Toppo planted a blackberry sapling.

The Commerce Department has decided to protect and preserve the tree saplings of the campus and Plant additional saplings every week

7 June 2019: The department of Commerce decided to protect and preserve the tree saplings planted in the campus on the World Environment Day.

They will maintain the tree plantation and identify each plant by its scientific name.

They have decided to plant 5 plants each every week during the departmental activity. They will provide Fencing and care for the plants.

Project Work Presentation Session Organized by Department of Commerce for B.Com 6th Semester Students

The department of Commerce has organized a presentation session for the 6th semester students of B.com course of the college. The presentation was regarding the project work undertaken by the students of their course work.

During the presentation, the principal of the college Fr. Dr. Jose Palely was present along with Asst. Prof. Ms Ayoushree Dowara, Department of Sociology along with the Asst. Professors of the commerce department, Mr. Harmeet Singh, Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ms. Devangona Saikia, Mr. Anjan Bharali, Ms. Mousumi Gogoi and Mr. Sanjay Rizal. They offered valuable observation and comments on the presentation made by the students.

The topics which students have undertaken are related to the welfare of the workers, the compensation paid by management, their investment pattern of the workers, Job satisfaction of the workers. The Academic project was completed by visiting the survey site and responses with taken from the targeted sample.   Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Ms. Mousumi Gogoi, Asst. Professors, Department of Commerce, mentored the students in the project work.

“Leaders are born or made” discusses Commerce department

5 April 2019: The students of the Department of commerce deliberated on the topic ” “leaders are born or made? Justify”. All the students were divided into 9 teams consisting of 3 members each for a group discussion. Their findings and ideas were presented to the whole group. Mark Pegu along with his team members John Dhanwar and Bijay Tete were adjudged as the best presenters. All the teams did a very commendable job.

The students were mentored by the Asst. Professors of the department, Mr. Harmeet Singh, Ms. Devangana Saikia, Mr. Anjan Bharali, Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ms. Mousumi Gogoi and Mr. Sanjay Rizal. We thank them for their hard work.

Don Bosco College Participates in the memorial service for Late Dr. Jatindra Nath Saikia at Commerce College

30 March 2019: Fr. Dr. Jose Palely, Principal along with Sr. Reena P George, Asst. Professor, English and Mr. Anjan Bharali, Asst. Professor, Commerce, participated in the memorial prayer service for the departed soul of Dr. Jatindra Nath Saikia.

Chants, Prayers and floral tributes marked the memorial service. In his message for the publication in memory of kate Dr. Jatindra Nath Saikia, Dr Jose Palely wrote about the wonderful spirit that existed between the two colleges, thanks to the great concern and support extended by him as principal of the Commerce College, Golaghat.

He prayed that the vision and the ideals of Dr. Jatindra Nath Saikia for the Commerce College and for the cause of education as a leading educationist and philosopher be made to reach its fulfillment and become a reality, through the efforts of all gathered together in his name.

Technology Savvy Commerce Wall Magazine ‘Innovate and Conquer’ Inaugurated

On 18th March, 2019: Fr. Dr. Jose Palely, Principal, inaugurated the SPARKLE Wall Magazine themed “Innovate and Conquer” of the Commerce Department today. His appreciatively noted in the comment section of the wall that this endeavor of the department marked the stamp of creativity and use technology. The integrating of technology is something new and unique in the growth of the Wall magazines in the campus.

The wall magazine contained articles on Successful people of top companies, such as Jeff Bezos, Dhirubhai Ambani, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, who used their innovative ideas and now conquering the world. Use of Technology in inaugurating the wall magazine and use of  QR CODE for accessing the articles online were befitting of the title of the Wall Magazine.

The college appreciates the efforts of the department in making this campus moving towards greater digitalization. The Asst. Professors of the Department of Commerce, Mr. Harmeet Singh, HOD, Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Mr.  Anjan Bharali, Ms. Devangana Saikia, Ms. Mousumi Gogoi and Mr. Sanjay Rizal mentored the students.

“Strive to Be a Job giver than a Job Seeker”, says Asst. Prof. Bishnubrat Hazarika

14 March 2019: Assam Rajiv Gandhi University of Cooperative Management (ARGUCOM) Sivasagar, organised One Day Workshop on Entrepreneurship in collaboration with Don Bosco College, Golaghat. The Program was sponsored by Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), Golaghat. Asst. Prof Bishnubrat Hazarika, Asst. Prof Hemanta Chutia and Asst. Prof Subhasish Borpujari were the resource persons of the workshop.

Asst. Prof Anjan Bharali, of the Department of Commerce and animator of the Entrepreneur Club, introduced and welcomed the dignitaries and the resource persons of the day.

Asst. Prof. Bishnubrat Hazarika spoke about the various opportunities for Entrepreneurship development in the region. He invited to create a mentality of job giver than Job Seeker.

Asst. Prof Hemanta Chutia imparted information on the various products which can be easily manufactured locally and explained how to go about it. He gave a brief description about the processes of making and marketing of green tea, tea, king Chilli, Bamboo shoot, Mushrooms cultivation etc.

Asst. Prof. Subhasish Borpujari explained about the source of getting funds from various financial institutions like Axis Bank, Micro, Small and Medium enterprises (MSME), North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFI). They offered their experience and handholding to make the process a successful one.

Students also interacted with the resource persons and clarified their doubts. The program ended at 2.45 pm. The University provided certificates and refreshments for the participants.

Asst. Prof. Mousmi Gogoi of the Department of Commerce and Mentor, Entrepreneur Club delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. Jose Palely, Principal thanked the resource persons and ARGUCOM for extending their support in creating a spirit of entrepreneurship in the campus, and looked forward to the visit of the Vice Chancellor to the college to further the collaborative efforts to a greater level.
