Dr. Sheela Paul CSJB inaugurates Wall Magazine “Enlighten” of Sociology Department

23 Sept 2019: At 8.50 am today, the department of Sociology inaugurated the Departmental Wall Magazine titled “Enlighten” prepared on the theme: “Leading Science and Technology”.

At the outset, Abhinash Topno presented a summary of the the Wall Magazine. After that Sr. Dr. Sheela Paul of the Dept of Education inaugurated the wall magazine. In her message, she appreciated the hard work of the students and commented on their spirit of self sacrifice and dedication.

Joysmita Tete compered the program, Joy Prakash Hereh, welcomed all present while Papori Kishan, Ph. Langoulung and Ashok Barla saw to the smooth management of the event.

Fr. Principal appreciated the innovative presentation and thanked the staff and students for their hard work and excellent presentation.

Dr. Sheela Paul CSJB helps Jesus Club students to have a spiritual experience

15 June 2019: Sr. Dr. Sheela Paul CSJB, Jesus Club animator, organised a short spiritual experience program during the club activity today.

The students joined in prayer and spend time in silence and reflection, animated by her.

The staff and students of the department of Education taken active step to keep the campus free of plastics

14 June 2019: The Staff and students of the department of Education met together in the department room to discuss how to keep the campus free of plastics.

After some deliberations, they decided that initially they will go about cleaning the campus of all plastics wastes. As a group they spread out in the campus and picked up plastics and other wastes and tried to dispose them.

First Semester Classes begin today – Awards given to senior students for 100% attendance

11 June 2019 : First Semester students began their new academic year today with a prayer led by Sr. Dr. Sheela Paul, imploring God’s help for a successful academic career, through the welcoming of the Holy Spirit, short meditation and scripture reading.

The thought of the day was given by Fr. Mathew C Paul. examples drawn from real life, he invited the students to understand the power of the ‘Uttered Word’ which can kill a person or make a person’s life better. He said, success should not be measured by the achievements but by the amount of happiness that one has and gives.

This was followed by the Award Ceremony. Fourteen students of first and 2nd year of previous academic year 2018-19 secured 100% attendance and were eligible for a certificate and cash award of 3 months tuition fee.

Ten NCC cadets participated in the XIV Combined Annual Training Camp organised by the 12 Assam Independent Company, Golaghat held at Jorhat from 1-10 June 2019. Two College NCC cadets received special award. Reema Xalxo secured first in the marathon race and Spoken English. Gracy Kujur secured second position in the drawing competition. All participants received merit certificates.

Fr. Jose Palely, Principal, concluded the Assembly session by welcoming the fresh students and presenting the various opportunities the college provides for building skills through various value added courses like Tally Solutions programs, language lab, spoken English etc. He also invited thefirst semester students to secure 100% attendance so that they too can also get awards for regularity.

Academic Year 2019-20 inaugurated today by Shri Rajesh Singh, President, Don Bosco Alumni Dimapur Federation and Fr. Tarcisius Toppo, Coordinator, Don Bosco Alumni, Assam Region.

4 June 2019: The Academic Year 2019-20 was inaugurated today. The Chief Guest was Shri Rajesh Singh, President, Don Bosco Alumni, Dimapur Province Federation and the Guest of Honour was Fr. Tarcisius Toppo, Coordinator, Don Bosco Alumni, Assam Region.

Sr. Dr. Sheela Paul CSJB led the assembly in prayer and which was followed by the lighting of the Lamp. In the same event, the Don Bosco College Alumni Unit was inaugurated. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour addressed the assembly highlighting the need to pursue academic excellence and making the Don Bosco Brand shine.

The principal thanked the dignitaries, the staff, students and the alumni for making this day a very special one in the history of Don Bosco College. Martin Minj and Shibani Topno compered the inauguration of the academic year.

4 June:  Shri Rajesh Singh, President, Don Bosco Alumni, Dimapur federation inaugurated the Formation of Don Bosco College Alumni Unit today at Don Bosco College Golaghat, along with Fr. Tarcisius Toppo, Coordinator, Don Bosco Alumni, Assam Region.

The program started at 9 am with the morning assembly. The whole program was hosted by Martin Minj and Shibani Topno. It began with the prayer service led by Sr. Dr. sheela Paul, followed by welcome song. The Principal welcomed the dignitaries of the day, Shri Rajesh Singh, President, Don Bosco Alumni , Dimapur Federation and Fr. Tarcisius Toppo, Coordinator, Don Bosco Alumni, Assam region.

The members of the first two batches that graduated from the college were present. Besides being members of the college Alumni, they also become members of the Don Bosco Alumni National federation, South Asia and International federation of Don Bosco Alumni with its headquarters in Rome.

Mark Pegu, Bikash Kujur and Prakash Mura introduced Fr. Tarcisius Toppo and John Kisku, Jay Kondh, Mariam Kerketta and Sunita Soreng introduced the Chief Guest, Shri Rajesh Singh. In their message they presented the role of Don Bosco Alumni in the growth of an institution and the specific role and benefits of a Don Bosco alumni. At once it is both a College Alumni and a unit of the International federation of Don Bosco Alumni, giving great networking possibility and connectivity to each member.

The second session began at about 10.35 am with the words of introduction by Fr. Tarcisius Toppo. This was followed by the input session on the functioning of the Don Bosco Alumni by Shri Rajesh Singh. This was followed by the election of the office bearers of the Alumni Unit.

Ms. Joyanti Nag, Asst. Professor, Department of Education and Mr. Bharab Hazarika, asst. Professor, Department of Sociology were elected as secretary and Jt. Secretary respectively. The Principal of the college is ex-officio delegate of the alumni unit. Mr. John Kisku was elected president of the Alumni, Ms. Marzita Saikia, Vice President, Mr. Basil Barla Vice Present (GEX), Mr. Mark Pegu, Treasurer. This was followed by the election of the 5 councilors: Ms. Angelina Tirkey, Ms. Jerina Ekka, Ms. Sunita Soreng, Mr. Martin Minj and Mr. Jay Kondh. For the smooth functioning of the Alumni, a separate office room, bank account with President and delegate as compulsory joint signatories and Secretary / Treasurer on either or basis to be operated (2+1), attend the Provincial Council Meeting, and Annual general body meeting.

John Kisku, the President of the unit, was invited to speak and he invited to consider the alumni activity as opportunities to move forward in life. The delegate appreciated the members present and invited them to make this alumni movement a successful one.

The meeting came to an end with the blessing given by Fr. Tarcisius Toppo. The Alumni Unit met together to discuss about the registration fee and decided to keep the life membership fee at Rs. 500 per person and the scheduling of the next meeting on 16 August 2019, the birthday of Don Bosco. This was followed by a photo session with all the dignitaries at 1. 15 pm.

“2 Day National Seminar on Ideals of Indian Constitution ends with ‘a call to live the Constitution'”, says Dr. Sheela Paul

28 April 2019: The two day national seminar on “Ideals of Indian Constitution and the contemporary challenges in the higher education” concluded today at 1.00 pm. It was an excellent opportunity to participate two days of national seminar on on 27 & 28 of April 2019 at Don Bosco Institute Guwahati. The inaugural session presided over by Rev. Fr. Januarius Sangma sdb, Salesman Provincial, Guwahati, with the lighting of the Lamp and his message set tone to the Seminar.

The seminar was divided into three main session: a) Principles and Ideals of Indian Constitution,  b) Indian Constitution and independence of the judiciary and challenges and c) religious freedom and modern day challenges against the backdrop of the indian Constitution.

After each session, time was given for discussion and the presence of eminent guests and their interactions enlightened the participants on the values enshrined in the constitution. At the end of the seminar, an action plan was drawn up for our educational institutions.

At the valedictory function, participants were awarded certificates. The participants were grateful and felt enriched by the seminar and pledged to live by the ideals of the Indian Constitution. We are grateful to Don Bosco Higher Education India (DBHEI) and Don Bosco Institute (DBI) for providing wonderful hospitality, an enlightening visit to Assam Don Bosco University, Tapesia, and for the well organised National Seminar.

27 April 2019: Fr. Dr. Policarp Xalxo along with Sr. Dr. Sheela Paul CSJB and Ms. Joyanti Nag of Education Department participate in the two day National Seminar organised by Don Bosco Higher Education, India at Don Bosco Institute Guwahati on 27-28 April 2019.

The theme of the National Seminar is : “Ideals of teh Indian Constitution and the Contemporary Challenges in Higher Education Today. Rev Fr. Januarius Sangma, Salesian Provincial of Guwahati Province inaugurated the Seminar. We wish them all the best.

Associate Prof. Mohendra Nath of Melamara College conducts the practical examination for Education 601 & 602 papers today

22 April 2019: The practical examination for the papers 601 and 602 of Education was held today. Associate Professor Mohendra Nath of Melamara College was the external Examiner.

Asst. Professors of the College, Ms. Daisy Gogoi, Sr. Dr. Sheela Paul, Ms. Banya Kasturi Dutta and Ms. Joyanti Nag assisted the external Examiner for the smooth conduct of all the practicals.

We thank Assoc. Prof. Mohendra Nath for his selfless service. He was very happy with the students’ preparedness.

Jesus Club organises special prayers on the last day of club activity

30 March 2019: On the last day of the club activities for the even semester, the Jesus Club students gathered together and spent an hour in prayer to prepare for the Easter celebrations.

Being the season of Lent, the students organised a Way of the Cross helping each other to join together in prayer and worship. It was a very encouraging and edifying moment for the animators to see how the youth take leadership in spiritual matters.
