Gender club plans celebration of International Women’s Day

15 Feb : The members of the Gender Club had a discussion on the celebration of International Women’s Day for the college. The students along with the teachers planned various programs and activities to be done on the day.  

It was decided to call Ms. Rakhi Saikia, Woman entrepreneur from Golaghat, Assam known for making of yellow tea popular, would be the Chief Guest for the day.

Winners of Story Writing Competition awarded by Gender Club

11 Feb 2020 : The Gender club declared the names of the winnders of the Inter-Club On the Spot Story Writing Competition held on 8th February 2020. Out of 29 Participants, 3 were judged as the winners. Wanggo Lowang of Literry Club secured the first prize. Shamma Kausar of NCC F/74 and Rebecca Surin of Eco Club won the 2nd and 3rd prize respectively.

The competition was judged by Mukul Sarmah, Asst. Professor, Department of Economics. Fr. Mathew C Paul gave away the prizes to the winners during the Morning Assembly.

Fr. Bimal Lakra, the Vice Principal along with the teachers in charge of the Gender Club, Priyanka Baruah, Alankrita Borthakur and Bhairab Hazarika were present for the prize distribution ceremony and thanked everyone for their cooperation and active participation.

Gender Club organised On the spot writing Activity on the theme “Preventing Gender Discriminiation” today

8 Feb 2020: The members of Gender Club organised an inter-club on the spot writing activity on the theme “Preventing Gender Discrimination”. The competition was held in Hall No. 16 during the club activity hour. Twenty Nine participants from ten different clubs participated in the program.

The members of the gender club ensured that the activity was carried out smoothly by assisting the candidates., along with the teacher in-charges: Ms. Priyanka Baruah, Ms. Alankrita Borthakur and Mr. Bharab Hazarika.

Gender club outlines club activities for February – March 2020

4 Feb 2020: The members and teachers-in-charge of Gender Club, Don Bosco College Golaghat gathered on 4 February 2020 to discuss and plan the activities of the club for the session.

In the meeting the club members decided to organise the following events:

  1. Inter-club on the spot story writing competition – 8 February 2020
  2. Poster Making Competition – 18 April 2020
  3. Slogan Writing Competition – 21 March 2020

We encourage all to actively cooperate and make this initiative of Gender Club a success.

Members of Gender Club focus on Gender Equality during their club meet

15 June 2019: The members of the Gender club along with Ms. Priyanka Baruah, Asst. Professor, Department of English, and Mr. Bhairab Hazarika, Asst. Professor,Department of Sociology during the club activity hour.

Some of the club members, being NSS and NCC members, were absent as they were participating in the Yoga Training Program.

The club members through charts and posters made presentation on “Equal Education for all”.

Career Cell organises Inter Club Quiz Competition

23 Feb 2019: Inter Club Quiz Competition was held in the college today organised by the Career Cell. The nine clubs of the college, Entrepreneur Club, Gender Club, Eco Club, Jesus Club, Health and Sanitation Club, Yoga Club, Literary Club, Sports Club and Cultural Club sent up two selected participants each for the quiz. The Quiz Master was Mr. Mark Pegu, Commerce 6th Sem student. Tingmai Wangsu and Sushila Lakra assisted the Quiz master.

There were a total of five rounds which the competitors had to go through to become winners. The first round was Trivia round in which the candidates have to choose the correct answer from the display screen.

The Second round was Mixed Bag in which question were asked on various subjects like Economics, Science, Technology, History, Music and sports. A team had to answer two questions each.

The Third round was India Said. In this round questions on India based on Sports, history, tourism etc were asked.

The Fourth round was Audio Visual Round. An audio or Video was streamed and questions were asked based on the item. Two hints were also provided to elicitate correct response from the participants.

The Fifth round was pictorial round. Pictures were projected on the screen and the participants had to identify the picture.

Entrepreneur Club led by Roshan Kandulna and Amit Bey secured first and Literary Club led by Tohsina Seyedi and Anjunika Tissopi secured second. Career Cell also sponsored awards for the winners. We congratulate the Career Cell animators, Mr. Harmeet Singh, HOD, Commerce and Ms. Sushmita Bora Rongpipi, Asst. Professor, Department of History and the Career Cell members. The entire college participated in the program and the Career Cell made the quiz program very lively and interesting for all.

11 Aug: The various clubs of the college organised club activities with help of the club animators. This was the first activity taken up by the club after the election of the new club leaders for the academic year. Every club organised very interesting programs during the activitiy time. We wish them all the best.

Students participate in various club activities

Aug 12: The students met together in various clubs and had interactive sessions according to the clubs. The college has provided opportunity to develop the various talents of the students through Club activities. The college has offered opportunity for  a student to join any one of the following clubs : Career, Culture, Environment, Entrepreneur, Gender, Literary, Sports and Yoga club. These club activities along with National Service Scheme, National Cadet Corps, Jesus Youth Movement provide a wide range of activities and community oriented programmes that help the students to move towards service to humanity and self-fulfilment.

International Women’s day observed at the College

8 March:  The college celebrated international women’s day and focused on the role of women in society.

REv Fr. Anto Tharakan inaugurated the women’s day celebration. At the outset a short video was shown on some of the leading women of India. Mr. Samaresh Nandy, Asst. Professor, Department of Commerce, spoke about the need to recognise the immense work done by women. He spoke of his mother as a very courageous woman and invited all to appreciate their own mother and sisters who sacrifice themselves for others. The other speakers were Ms. Esther and Mr. Mohan Teron  of the department of English and Ms. Sushmita, Asst. Professor, department of History. Esther invited all to be Bold for Change and bring about a new mentality. Mohan shared from his personal experience and how women really sustain the family. Ms. Sushmita shared reflection on some of the Pride Daughters of India like  Anuja Chauhan, Arundhatti Bhattacharya, Agatha Sangma and others from various careers and showed how women make a difference in the society.
