“Mere decision is not enough: it has to be put into action”, says Fr. Nebu, Provincial Economer.

3 Jan :  Rev Fr. Nebu Mathew, Provincial Economer of the Salesian Province of Dimapur, was the Chief Guest for the inauguration of the even semester.  The program began with a short prayer session themed “Begin Afresh with the Year 2019”. Fr. Principal welcomed the dignitaries of the day: Rev Fr. Nebu Mathew, Chief Guest and Mr. Christoph and his Dad John Peter, members of the Nord – OstIndien Bildungshilfe, from Seeg, South Germany, graced the occasion as Guests of Honor.

Fr. Nebu invited the students through the story of three frogs, that it is not enough to decide. Every decision has to be followed by persevering action.

After the inaugural session, Fr. Nebu Mathew proceeded to Don Bosco Rangajan to meet with the Superior General and Team of the CSJB Congregation, who were on a canonical visit.


College to reopen on 3 January after winter holidays

28 Nov:  The college is scheduled to reopen on 3rd January 2019.  Fr. Nebu Mathew SDB, Provincial Economer, Dimapur province will give inaugural address. All the students are to report to college on the reopening day.


Prof. Thomas Menamparampil graces the National Seminar on Conflict in South Asia: Its Consequences and Implications as Chief Guest

16 Mar:  The National Seminar on “Conflict in South Asia: Its Consequences and Implications” jointly hosted by the department of Political Science and Sociology from Don Bosco College Golaghat and Salesian College Sonada began as per schedule.

Registration and breakfast for the seminar began at 8.30 am and NCC cadres of the college ushered in the dignitaries at 9.30 am. Dr. Jose Palely, Principal welcomed the dignitaries and all present. Dr. Konsam Jenny, Coordinator of the seminar delivered the words of introduction and invited Dr. Pius V Thomas, Dept of Philosophy, Assam University, Silchar to deliver the key note address. He spoke on “Conflicting Communities to Conversing Cosmo-polities: Counterfactual Ideals against Conflicts” and invited the participants to talk seriously about peace and real conflict resolution where the strangest of the strangers are welcomed.

Prof. Thomas Menamparampil SDB DD, the Chief Guest of the seminar, spoke on a need to build up a “Thought Bank” that will lead to Dialogue and a sense of Co-Belonging – Working for peace. He emphasised the need to promote inter culture communication in which one is able to understand the other and come together through culture translators. It is also important he said to gather people together around great values and high ideals. He invited every community to contribute from its own resources “as we are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny”.

The guests of honor, Dr. Putul Saikia, Principal Debraj Roy College, Golaghat and Fr. Nebu Mathew Palackal gave great insights in conflict resolution and wished the seminar all its success.

Rev Fr. Nestor Guria, President of the function, spoke on the need to understand the conflict situation and intervene meaningfully by focusing on peace and peace education.

Helmut & Maria Ida Merkel and Brigitte Litterer visit the college along with Provincial Economer


6 Nov:  The German Benefactors of Don Bosco and Salesian Cooperators, Mr. Helmut Merkel, his wife Ida Maria Merkel and Brigitte Litterer visited the college today along with the Provincial Economer Fr. Nebu Mathew. Although it was exam time, the students who had no exam today welcomed the visitors and honoured them with traditional welcome ceremony.

Fr Jose Palely welcomed the visitors and thanked them for contributing towards educational support and infrastructural development. Besides scholarship and educational assistance like library, computer lab etc, they have also helped to build a school and girls hostel at Mintong. Currently they are supporting a small dispensary and the boys’ hostel at Mintong.  After this the visitors interacted with the students and shared their vision and experience in India. The students were also curious to know about Germany.

After this we explored the possibility of collaboration at Don Bosco College Golaghat and they were more than eager to support educational scholarship for poor and intelligent students. They also agreed to help in the construction of the college hostel for the boys.


Provincial and team inspects College construction works

18 Oct : Rev Fr Provincial, Vice Provincial and Economer, as part of the visitation, inspected the construction works. they were appreciative of the progress of the works. They inspected the Mario Paolini centre for research and development and the construction of Right Wing of the College building.  They also inspected the girls’s hostel construction works done by the CSJB sisters.

Provincial Team makes official visit to the College

17 Oct:  Rev Fr. Nestor Guria, Provincial along with Fr. Bosco Perianayagam, the Vice Provincial and Fr. Nebu Mathew the Provincial Economer made the visitation of the Golaghat Don Bosco Community on 17-18 October 2017. They were officially welcomed at the parish on 17th Morning. As part of the visitation programme, the Provincial team interacted with the staff and students of the college, met each confrere personally, went through all the records and documents and visited the various facilities of the campus. They also interacted with the partner institutions that are collaborating with the parish and the college.

We thank the provincial and his team for sparing two days of their hectic time to be with us. It was truly a moment of grace and blessings for the institution.


Fr. Provincial blesses the site for the construction of college building

August 3:  Rev Fr. Nestor Guria, Provincial, in the presence of Fr. Nebu Mathew Palackal, Provincial economer and the confreres from Dergaon, Rangajan and Golaghat and the management, staff and students of the college, on 3rd August at 11.00 am. The students welcomed the dignitaries with presentation of traditional Gamochas.

Fr. Provincial in his message, recalled the sacrifices of many generous souls to make this college into a reality. The community prayed for the repose of the soul of Dr. Mario Paolini from Italy part of whose patrimony is used for the construction of the Front Right wing of the college.

Fr. Nebu mathew, Fr. Dilip Bara the Parish Priest and Fr. Jose Palely the Principal joined Fr. Provincial in blessing the college building site. Fr. EC Michael from Dergaon, Fr. Joseph pampackal, Fr. Albert and Br. William from Rangajan and Fr. Dilip Bara, the Rector of Don Bosco Golagaht were present.

The college appreciates the hard work done by the architect, Rev Fr. Mathew C Paul, M.Arch, SDB for seeing to the detailed planning and designing of the college.
