Fr. Bimal Lakra inaugurates “Excelsior” Wall magazine of Political Science Department

31 Aug: Political Science department inaugurated their wall magazine, bringing forth the theme: ‘Excelsior’ subtitled ‘India Today’. The wall magazine touched upon all the current and major issues that face India today.

Rebecca Surin highlighted the main theme and invited all to ‘grow higher and higher in learning’ and excel in life. Bikash Horo welcomed everyone present for the inaugural function of the Wall Magazine.

The wall magazine was inaugurated by Fr. Bimal Lakra, Vice Principal and a comment was given by Fr. Jose Palely, Principal.

The program came to an end with the vote of thanks by the department leader, Wanggo Lowang, followed by a photo session with the organizers and the staff of the department.

We appreciate the hard work of the staff and students of Political Science in bringing the wall magazine at the most appropriate time.

Political Science department focus on creation of a Medicinal Garden to preserve the environment.

28 June 2019: Today during the departmental activity hour, students of political Science Department began their field work to complete their dream project on “Creation of Awareness on  Environment with Preservation of Medicinal plants” under the guidance of Fr. Dr. Polycarp Xalxo. The field work was supervised  by the Professors of the department.

The students cleared the allotted area and slopped the sides to create a medicinal garden.

Four students participate in Golaghat District Inter College Debate Competition organised by Melamora College

21 June 2019: Amit Bey and Isdhar Toppo of Political Science Department, James Soreng of Education Department and Tohsina Seyedi of English Department participated in the Inter-College debate competition today. The topic of the debate was “The Agricultural Development of Assam is the only Possible way for the overall development of Assam”.

Students from various colleges participated in the competition. All the debaters put in their very best to win their point and showcase their talents.

Such programs will help in developing skill of public speaking and boost confidence of students to face any audience.

The Golaghat District Inter College debate competition was organised by the IQAC Cell of Melamora College in memory of Late Gangadhar Saikia, a visionary, social reformer and educationist.

Political Science Department held a group discussion on Cabinet Ministers of India and their role

14 June 2019: As part of the departmental activity, the Political Science Department held a group discussion on the Cabinet Ministers of India and their role.

The students discussed with the help of a video, on each of the present cabinet ministers in the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s Government.

The discussion was very lively and enlightening for the students.

Students of Political Science decide to create awareness on Environment and preservation of Medicinal Plants

7 June 2019: The department of Political Science came up with the project “Awareness on Environment with preservation of Medicinal Plants”, during the departmental activity hour.

through this project, the department will make a medicinal plant garden in the college campus this academic year and promote herbal medicines.

Five Out going students get award for 100% attendance

30 April 2019: Five 6 Semester students secured 100% attendance this academic year June 2018-May 2019. The college honoured them today for their 100% Regularity. They were George Shilshi Lamkhang, Menuti Kerketta, Preety Ekka and Angelina Tirkey of Sociology Department and Preity Soreng of Political Science Department.

The Principal awarded them certificates of Merit and a cash award of 3 months tuition fee as incentive. We wish them all the best. Those secured 100% attendance from the 1st Year and 2nd Year will be awarded in August 2019.

On this occasion, the Principal assured all the students prayerful accompaniment by the College management and staff so that they do their End Semester Examinations well. He encouraged them to be disciplined and upright in the examination hall, attempt every question and be time conscious. The ceremony came to a close with the ‘Our Father” prayer for all the students and for the smooth conduct of the examinations.

Political Science Department opt for syllabus based group discussion during departmental activity

5 April 2019: The department of Political Science dedicated today’s departmental activity hours to group discussion base on the syllabus with the help of the staff.

Second Semester students were divided into three groups and took up three themes for discussion: Amendment procedure of Indian Constitution, Powers and position of the Indian President and Relation between the Centre and State.

The Fourth Semester students were divided into two groups. One group focused on North East Politics while the other looked at the UK and USA Constitutions – a comparative study.

The Sixth Semester students took up Panchayati Raj as the topic for in depth understanding. The Asst. Professors of the department, Mrigakhi Goswami, Rimi sharma, Bijit Saikia and Suchitra Bhuyan.

Fr. Bimal Lakra Inaugurates the Political Science Departmental Wall Magazine Titled “Analysis on the Present NDA led Government

22 March 2019: The department of Political science prepared the college magazine on the theme ‘Analysis on the present NDA led Government’ which included initiatives on various developmental measures and the drawbacks of the government. Aboy Panmei Compered the Inaugural Program.

The wall magazine was inaugurated by Fr. Bimal Lakra, vice principal and the PRO of the college in the presence of Fr. Dr. Jose Palely, Principal and Fr. Dr. Policarp Xalxo, Administrator and IQAC coordinator of the college. All the college students along with the staff were present for the inaugural ceremony. Fr. Bimal Lakra spoke about the importance of mastering the skill of analysis and appreciated the effort made by the students of the political Science department in analyzing and bringing about the effectiveness of the present NDA Government.

Wanggo Lowang gave a brief description about the departmental wall magazine highlighting the various features. ‘We wanted to light a fire of desire in everyone and create a thirst for knowledge’, he said. After the words of appreciation from Fr. Principal and Fr. Administrator, Sinchuilung Gangmei delivered vote of thanks.

8 March 19: All the departments of the college along with Fusco Don Bosco College celebrated international women’s day in collaboration with the Gender Club of the college. Ankita Tirkey and Rebecca Surin anchored the program.  Sr. Ciciliyamma, Superior, Providence Niwas, Ms. Olivia Saikia, Bank Officer, Bank of India, Golaghat and Ms. Manjuri Saikia, Principal, Marshneil Academy graced the function as Honoured Guests.

Sr. Dr. Sheela Paul initiated the gathering with a short prayer session. Ms. Alankrita Borthakur and Ms. Jayshree Rajbonshi, mentors of the Gender club welcomed the honoured guests and every one present.

Klaretso Engtipi and team of Education Department presented through group activity the real situation of women in family and society and how to empower women to be trend setters. Sanjit Kumar and team from the commerce department through a corporate drama, showed how the Dual face of feminism is at play in work places and gave a clarion call to end pseudo feminism.

Abhilash Toppo and team of Sociology Department through a musical drama presented the various stages of life of a women from childhood to old age and invited all to respect and empower and respect women in family and society.

Ms Olivia Saikia in her message to the staff and students invited all to consider women as equal and if trained, is capable of doing any task entrusted to her. If a woman wants to achieve something, she must go for it and never ever let anyone make you feel that you do not have it in you. She also appreciated the wonderful and creative items that were performed by the students.

Preity Soreng, Elwin Terrang and team from the department of political science enlighted the audience by creating awareness of the role of women in Rural Development and  the various provisions and schemes of the government.

Ms. Manjuri  Saikia, Principal of the Marshneil Academy while appreciating all the performances of the students, said “As women we have the inherent quality of tolerance and patience. And if we use this in the right way, we can walk with equal pace with man. A man is incomplete without woman and woman is incomplete without man. And we have to keep the balance.

Marzita Saikia of Gender club and Mohon Teron sang “Meri Ma” in honour of all mothers. Anjali Steephan and team of English Department through a powerful musical drama, conveyed to the women not to be silent anymore but assert themselves. In her speech, Sr. Ciciliyamma K.M. CSJB, showed how women need to assert themselves and play a very proactive role in family, society and at work places.

The Fusco Girls presented a drama highlighting the recent hooch tragedy in Golaghat and showed how women have become more organised in fighting the menace of drinks and drugs in family and society. Fr. Jose Palely, Principal, thanked all the honoured guests, Fr. Bimal Lakra, vice Principal, staff and students for taking great effort in presenting a well coordinated, themed and well prepared program highlighting the role of women in society. He invited everyone to carry this same spirit and give them equal opportunity and respect. With the singing of the national anthem, the program came to a close at 3.20 pm.
