Dr. Sadiq Hussain Trains the 1st students In On Line Registration at DBC Golaghat

3 June 2019: Dr. Sadiq Hussain, System Administrator, Dibrugarh University, visited the college to interact with the students. Fr. Dr. Jose Palely welcomed him and Jasmine Barla presented him with a Fulam Gamocha.

He explained and showed the students how to register themselves on line by registering a demo entry in the Dibrugarh University portal. He also trained the office staff who will follow the verification process on how to proceed with the verification process.

He spent an hour with the 1st semester students. Though an off day, 130 students were present for the training session.

A Breakfast Time in the Guwahati – Bangalore Train

18 July 2019: After a peaceful night rest, the students and staff awakened to a new day and got ready for breakfast.

The students distributed Buns and Jam and fruits. Many bought bananas and found that they were much cheaper in Golaghat.

Though a little tired, they are very happy in the train and waiting eagerly to reach Bangalore.

Don Bosco College Students on Educational Tour to Bangalore & Mysore

15 July 2019: Forty Students along with Five staff including the Principal, Fr. Jose Palely set out for an educational tour to Bangalore. The Patron of the Tour is Fr. V M Thomas, Director, Planning and Development, DBTECH New Delhi, who during the visit, interacted with the students and encouraged them for an educational Tour to Bangalore. He also facilitated receiving concession forms, and sponsored dinners in Bangalore. With his blessings, the team set out on the first Educational Tour to Bangalore.

The students travelled to Guwahati by AVADH Express and halted the night at Guwahati, Girls at CRI and Boys at Don Bosco Parish Hall. Thanks to the NF Railway, we got our confirmation tickets with an extra coach added to the train and our journey started on 16 July from Guwahati.

It is the first experience for many of the students. On 18 July they will reach Bangalore and a host of programs await them. Many people have come forward to help the smooth conduct of this Educational Tour. Some of them are: Ms. Suja of Infosys, Fr. Joy, Jinu Mathew & Team at BREADS, Fr. John & Team at BOSCO, Fr. Joseph Elavanal at DBSM, Mr. Felix D’Souza & Mr. Philip of FVTRS,  Dr. Victor Paul & Dr. Tomy KK of Christ University, Mr. Stanley of SKIP, Mr. Sunny & Femi, Fusco School and Provincial Community, CSJB and Tally Solutions.

We wish all the students a wonderful learning time at Bangalore. On 24th July they will return by Bangalore – Guwahati train.

Dr. A J Sebastian, Retd Professor and HOD, Dept of English, Nagaland University interact with the staff and students of English Department.

22 June 2019: The staff and students of Department of English  attended an interactive session with resource persons Rev. Fr. Dr. A. J Sebastian,  Retd. Professor and HOD, Department of English, Nagaland University and Fr. Dr. Peter Salew on 22 June 2019 at 1.15 pm.

The lecture delivered by Fr. Sebastian focused on many key areas of English literature, namely,  literary theory and criticism, poetry and fiction. 

The resource person encouraged the students to emphasize on the need of learning grammar to speak and write correct English.  He also gave insights on the future prospects of English literature. 

They attended to the queries of the students which focused on criticism and ways of writing answers in the examination.

Dr. Sebastian also guided the teachers and shared tips for teaching literature at under graduate level. He encouraged the faculties to do research oriented works.

Fr. Dr. Peter and Fr. Polycarp, Vice Principal (Administration) DBC Golaghat too shared their personal tips on how to learn English language

In his concluding remark, Dr. Sebastian encouraged the students to learn spoken English and creative writing to excel in the interviews and exams.

Appreciative words and the thunderous applause of the students brought the interactive session to a close at 2.00 pm.

Sr. Reena P George helps the 1st Semester Students to draw their Happines Pie Chart

14 June 2019: During the Alternative English class, Sr. Reena P George CSJB took a special class to help the students to identify their happiness indicators and draw the Happiness Pie Chart.

She had discussions with them and in a very informal way animated them to come up with their happiness indicators. They were encouraged to draw creatively.

After the task was completed, time was given to share and this helped the class to come to know each other better.

They have been in the college just for four days and this helped them to come to know each other better.

Students of the English Department learn new skills of making paper jackets with help of videos

14 June 2019: As part of the departmental activity for the year to combat the use of plastics, the professors of the department provided youtube videos to help students to make new designs of paper jackets.

Once the students get skilled in making durable and reliable paper jackets, they will distribute them to the shops to discourage the use of plastic bags and carriers.

Students of English Department opt to make Paper bags and other useful materials out of news paper

7 June 19: During the Departmental activity the staff and students of the department of English opted for making paper bags and various other useful materials from old papers and news papers.

This activity was taken up with a view to reduce the use of plastic bags and to create awareness among people about the hazardous effects of Plastic bags.

The staff showed the students how to make useful items with news papers with the help of video clips.

The department intend to supply these in the shops and discourage parceling items in plastic bags.

Don Bosco College Participates in the memorial service for Late Dr. Jatindra Nath Saikia at Commerce College

30 March 2019: Fr. Dr. Jose Palely, Principal along with Sr. Reena P George, Asst. Professor, English and Mr. Anjan Bharali, Asst. Professor, Commerce, participated in the memorial prayer service for the departed soul of Dr. Jatindra Nath Saikia.

Chants, Prayers and floral tributes marked the memorial service. In his message for the publication in memory of kate Dr. Jatindra Nath Saikia, Dr Jose Palely wrote about the wonderful spirit that existed between the two colleges, thanks to the great concern and support extended by him as principal of the Commerce College, Golaghat.

He prayed that the vision and the ideals of Dr. Jatindra Nath Saikia for the Commerce College and for the cause of education as a leading educationist and philosopher be made to reach its fulfillment and become a reality, through the efforts of all gathered together in his name.

Most Rev Joseph Aind visits the college to oversee the developmental works

31 March 2019: Most Rev Joseph Aind, Bishop of Dibrugarh visited Don Bosco College campus today and interacted with the Salesian Community and the CSJB sisters who are collaborating with the college.

He was happy to see the progress of the developmental works at the college as well as the Girls’ Hostel. He was happy to see the Fusco Girls hostel nearing completion.

He appreciated the speed with which the college building is coming up and took photos with Fr. Principal and the sisters. He had a cup of tea with the sisters and after encouraging everyone, he proceeded to Dibrugarh.

14 March 19: Asst. Prof Bishnubrat Hazarika of ARGUCOM along with Asst. Prof. Hemanta Chutia and Asst. Prof Subhasish Borpujari inaugurated the wall Magazine of the English Department today. The wall Magazine “Symposium” presented various articles, poems, drawings and sketches on the theme “War and Peace”.

Some of the contributors for the theme of War and Peace are: Triveni Teronpi, Prem Prakash Kujur, Marlinush Baghwar, Tarcila Toppo, Rashmi Tigga and Joydeep Kiro.

Marlinush Baghwar, Leader of the English Department welcomed the honoured guests and presented a short introduction about the wall Magazine.

We appreciate the hard work of the students of the Department of English and the expert guidance given by the Asst. Professors of the department of English, Ms. Kabideepa Handique, Mr. Probin Hazarika, Sr. Reena P. George, Mr. Bhaskar Gohain and Ms. Joysree Rajbonshi. Congratulations to the department of English.
