Dr. Sheela Paul CSJB inaugurates Wall Magazine “Enlighten” of Sociology Department

23 Sept 2019: At 8.50 am today, the department of Sociology inaugurated the Departmental Wall Magazine titled “Enlighten” prepared on the theme: “Leading Science and Technology”.

At the outset, Abhinash Topno presented a summary of the the Wall Magazine. After that Sr. Dr. Sheela Paul of the Dept of Education inaugurated the wall magazine. In her message, she appreciated the hard work of the students and commented on their spirit of self sacrifice and dedication.

Joysmita Tete compered the program, Joy Prakash Hereh, welcomed all present while Papori Kishan, Ph. Langoulung and Ashok Barla saw to the smooth management of the event.

Fr. Principal appreciated the innovative presentation and thanked the staff and students for their hard work and excellent presentation.

Deptartment of Sociology starts Flower Garden Activity in the College

14 June 2019: The staff and students of the Sociology department spent some time in discussing and planning for the forth coming departmental activity hour.

After the discussion, they visited the college flower garden to clean the weeds and preparing the garden for new saplings.

The Department of Sociology has taken up Creating a beautiful Flower Garden in the campus as its departmental activity for the year

7 June 2019: The department of Sociology has chosen to maintain a beautiful flower garden in the college campus.

Towards this, they have planned the following activities : Cleaning the garden, watering the flower plants, Planting new flower plants, using organic manure for the garden and installing hand made dustbins around the garden.

Five Out going students get award for 100% attendance

30 April 2019: Five 6 Semester students secured 100% attendance this academic year June 2018-May 2019. The college honoured them today for their 100% Regularity. They were George Shilshi Lamkhang, Menuti Kerketta, Preety Ekka and Angelina Tirkey of Sociology Department and Preity Soreng of Political Science Department.

The Principal awarded them certificates of Merit and a cash award of 3 months tuition fee as incentive. We wish them all the best. Those secured 100% attendance from the 1st Year and 2nd Year will be awarded in August 2019.

On this occasion, the Principal assured all the students prayerful accompaniment by the College management and staff so that they do their End Semester Examinations well. He encouraged them to be disciplined and upright in the examination hall, attempt every question and be time conscious. The ceremony came to a close with the ‘Our Father” prayer for all the students and for the smooth conduct of the examinations.

Students of Sociology organise Mock Parliament session to understand Political Leadership

5 April 19:  During the departmental activities today, the Sociology department organized a mock parliament session to evaluate the success and the failures of the different political parties. The movements like Beti bachao, Make in India, Making India a Digital Nation were efforts made by the present government to make India a better nation.

Some of the other important events that featured in discussion were: the Surgical strike, the Pulwama terror attack and Balakot Airstrike along with the events that unfolded after that.

The Asifa Case, the inability to keep to fulfil the promises made by the political parties including granting of ST status to Adivasi Community etc. were highlighted.

The objective of the mock parliament was to understand how the leadership functions, the various factors that influence the happenings in our country and to understand who would give his or her committed service for the betterment of the nation. Asst Professors of the Department, Ms. Ayousree Dowara, Ms. Alankrita Borthakur, Ms. Aparna Borchetia and Mr. Bhairab Hazarika animated the group.

“Episteme” Wall Magazine of the Department of Sociology inaugurated by Ms. Olivia Saikia, Bank officer, Bank of India, Golaghat

8 March 2019: Ms. Olivia Saikia, Bank Officer, Bank of India, Golaghat inaugurated the Wall Magazine titled Episteme, prepared by the students of the Department of Sociology.

The wall magazine focused on the Tree of Sociology, consisting of the Classical sociologists, Modern Sociologists and Indian Sociologists. The editorial board consisted of Ms. Ayousree Dowara, Ms. Alankrita Borthakur, Ms. Aparna Borchetia and Mr. Bhairab Hazarika, the staff of the department as advisors. Sunita Soreng, Marina Lakra, Yumrin Nockpam, Angelina Tirkey and Preety Ekka were the members of the editorial Board. We appreciate their hard work and their creative expression and innovative ideas.

8 March 19: All the departments of the college along with Fusco Don Bosco College celebrated international women’s day in collaboration with the Gender Club of the college. Ankita Tirkey and Rebecca Surin anchored the program.  Sr. Ciciliyamma, Superior, Providence Niwas, Ms. Olivia Saikia, Bank Officer, Bank of India, Golaghat and Ms. Manjuri Saikia, Principal, Marshneil Academy graced the function as Honoured Guests.

Sr. Dr. Sheela Paul initiated the gathering with a short prayer session. Ms. Alankrita Borthakur and Ms. Jayshree Rajbonshi, mentors of the Gender club welcomed the honoured guests and every one present.

Klaretso Engtipi and team of Education Department presented through group activity the real situation of women in family and society and how to empower women to be trend setters. Sanjit Kumar and team from the commerce department through a corporate drama, showed how the Dual face of feminism is at play in work places and gave a clarion call to end pseudo feminism.

Abhilash Toppo and team of Sociology Department through a musical drama presented the various stages of life of a women from childhood to old age and invited all to respect and empower and respect women in family and society.

Ms Olivia Saikia in her message to the staff and students invited all to consider women as equal and if trained, is capable of doing any task entrusted to her. If a woman wants to achieve something, she must go for it and never ever let anyone make you feel that you do not have it in you. She also appreciated the wonderful and creative items that were performed by the students.

Preity Soreng, Elwin Terrang and team from the department of political science enlighted the audience by creating awareness of the role of women in Rural Development and  the various provisions and schemes of the government.

Ms. Manjuri  Saikia, Principal of the Marshneil Academy while appreciating all the performances of the students, said “As women we have the inherent quality of tolerance and patience. And if we use this in the right way, we can walk with equal pace with man. A man is incomplete without woman and woman is incomplete without man. And we have to keep the balance.

Marzita Saikia of Gender club and Mohon Teron sang “Meri Ma” in honour of all mothers. Anjali Steephan and team of English Department through a powerful musical drama, conveyed to the women not to be silent anymore but assert themselves. In her speech, Sr. Ciciliyamma K.M. CSJB, showed how women need to assert themselves and play a very proactive role in family, society and at work places.

The Fusco Girls presented a drama highlighting the recent hooch tragedy in Golaghat and showed how women have become more organised in fighting the menace of drinks and drugs in family and society. Fr. Jose Palely, Principal, thanked all the honoured guests, Fr. Bimal Lakra, vice Principal, staff and students for taking great effort in presenting a well coordinated, themed and well prepared program highlighting the role of women in society. He invited everyone to carry this same spirit and give them equal opportunity and respect. With the singing of the national anthem, the program came to a close at 3.20 pm.

Students take up Departmental Activities on Friday

1 Mar 19: The staff and students gathered in each department class room to carry out the various planned activities. The Department of Political Science continued its presentation on the Profile of the North Easter STate. Today Isdhar Toppo presented a Power point on on the state of Tripura, Lungthandim Dangmei on Meghalaya and Sentui Kitnya, Gaimeisin Kamson and Romanus Tirkey on Nagaland.

The department of Education, Sociology and Commerce also focused on Wall Magazine while the depart of English took up an audiovisual program with literary theme. The students were very much enthusiastic to give their very best to the departmental activity.

Various Departments of Don Bosco College get ready to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March

1 March 19: The Staff and students, during the departmental activity today planned how to celebrate the International Women’s Day at the College. Besides inviting and honoring Women who have played lead roles in society, the departments are vying with each other to present a specific aspect of the women with a view to appreciate them.

The Department of Education has planned to prepare a Group Presentation with respect to Women Empowerment.The Department of Political Science is preparing a Power Point Presentation highlighting the Role of Women in Rural Development. The Department of Sociology is presenting a Musical Drama “A Journey called Life’ Highlighting the various stages of women. The Department of English will present a Dance with the theme: Better the Balance Better the World! and the Department of Commerce will present a skit on “Dual Face of Feminism – Genuine and Pseudo Feminism. We wish all the staff and students the very best.

Group Discussions, Wall Magazine preparations and motivational movies mark departmental activities

22 Feb 2019: Group Discussions, Wall Magazine preparations and motivational movies mark departmental activities today. The Political Science Department had Group Discussions on the “Profile of North-Eastern States”. Two groups presented the profile of Sikhim and Arunachal Pradesh. Other departments too had group discussions, and other relevant activities like preparing the Wall Magazine and watching motivational and subject related movies.
